6425 people to take part in Hospice Santa Runs this December!

6425 people to take part in Hospice Santa Runs this December!

Over 30 schools and groups have signed up to support St Cuthbert’s Hospice this festive season by taking on their own Santa Run in aid of the charity. Santa Runners are going to be donning their best festive attire and raising sponsorship for the much-loved Hospice, based in Durham City.

Over 6,000 pupils, staff and local supporters are expected to take part and the Hospice hope to raise £15,000 with thanks to the generosity of its local community.

Community Fundraiser Erin Wright said:

“We’re thrilled that 34 local schools and groups have signed up to get sponsored and don their Santa hats to raise funds for the Hospice! We have nurseries, primary and secondary schools taking part, as well as New College Durham, our Hospice running club St Cuthbert’s Champions and Durham Breeze Cycle Club organising their own Santa Runs over the next month!”

Our Hospice Community and Events Team visited over 200 schools in the Autumn to deliver festive fundraising packs dressed as Elves! We wanted to brighten everyone’s day and bring some Christmas sparkle and fun to our fundraising and it’s wonderful to see so many schools and groups have loved our fundraising idea and want to get involved!”

The Community and Events Team have been sprinkling some Christmas magic throughout November delivering over 6,000 complimentary Santa hats and sponsor forms to schools and groups in the region to kick-start their fundraising!

The charity must raise in excess of £2 million each year to continue providing care to people with life-limiting illnesses, those approaching the end-of-life and the bereaved.
