This summer the National Museum of the Royal Navy Hartlepool is welcoming the Unpath’d Waters Discovery Bus, alongside informative opportunities to go behind the scenes at the museum. A ticket to the museum gives access to these events and others throughout the year, with a discount available for those booking online.

The Unpath’d Waters Discovery Bus is allowing visitors to the museum to hop aboard and find out more about this incredible project which aims to unite all of the UK’s Maritime collections.
Visitors can get involved in their interactive exhibits, including the opportunity to use a simulator to explore Doggerland, a prehistoric area that is now submerged under the North Sea. Or find out more about the fascinating world of shipwrecks with their Needle Voyager. There will also be the opportunity to check out their portal to search marine data records from all parts of the UK which have been brought together in one place for the first time.
Access to Unpath’d Waters is included with a museum ticket.
The National Museum of the Royal Navy Hartlepool, Diving Deep: HMS Invincible 1744
After learning all about other vital maritime history projects, discover the story of HMS Invincible. Diving Deep provides an insight into the extraordinary work of a team of professional and volunteer divers. The exhibition explores the fascinating discovery and underwater excavation of HMS Invincible, an 18th century battleship which sank in February 1758 when she hit a sandbank in the East Solent.

As visitors explore the oldest warship afloat in Europe, HMS Trincomalee, they should make sure to stop in the Captain’s Cabin for a special storytelling session. Hear tales from the high-seas, secrets from the Georgian Quayside, or something altogether different.

HMS Trincomalee is the oldest warship afloat in Europe, and it’s the job of shipwright Tom, among many others, to keep it that way. Join Tom in the workshop for a special talk about the ship. Working on Trincomalee is a busy job, and visitors will get the chance to learn all about how such a magnificent frigate is kept ship-shape.

Suitable for those aged 14 and up, this event will show visitors HMS Trincomalee’s hidden secrets, and look at the life of Europe’s oldest floating warship. Led by the conservation team at the museum, visitors can explore areas not usually accessible to the public, and discover how the museum cares for this unique example of British maritime history. For visitors who want to get even closer to life at sea special demonstrations and object handling sessions are happening throughout summer. Handle items used by sailors to traverse the high seas, and learn all about the weaponry of the time, before enjoying an explosive demonstration.
