Thorpe Farm Centre has opened two indoor Padel courts, meaning that the increasingly popular sport can now be played locally in all weathers.
The two courts, one for singles games, and one for doubles, have been installed in a barn at Thorpe Farm Centre, and can now be booked by anyone, whether beginners or more experienced at the sport.
Harvey Barkes, of Thorpe Farm Centre, commented: “Padel, a mix of tennis and squash, is the world’s fastest growing sport. It’s fast and fun, and also incredibly sociable. We believe the facilities at Thorpe Farm Centre will make it a great place to play. Being inside a barn, you won’t be limited by the Teesdale weather, so you can come and play Padel all year round.
“With rackets available to use at the courts, and balls available through a vending machine, there’s nothing to stop you giving Padel a go. It’s suitable for anyone from about age five or six up, and designed to be really easy to pick up. Total beginners can be enjoying impressive rallies within 10 minutes of picking up a racket.”
Thorpe Farm Centre’s Padel Courts are open from 7am to 10pm daily and can be booked through the Playtomic app. Rackets are provided free at the courts, and there is a vending machine for the Padel balls. Within the newly refurbished building, there is a large stylish seating and viewing area with a range of comfortable seating and tables. Other facilities include toilets and a shower, as well as vending machines for drinks and snacks. Further refreshments are available in the nearby Courtyard Café, open daily from 9am to 5pm.
