Octopus Energy has given a huge boost to local Durham football by sponsoring grassroots clubs like Park View AFC with brand-new, snazzy football kits – completely for free. Members of the company’s popular rewards program Octoplus could nominate their local teams for free Octokits in club colours and branding via a prize draw.
As part of its Octopus Kits for Kids giveaway, the energy company aimed to kit out 500 kids’ teams. But the response was so overwhelming that it accepted applications for more than five times the original number of orders in its first season.
Now in its third season, the giveaway has kitted out more than 4,500 grassroots Tentacle Teams, letting them hit the field in style with over 50,000 eye-catching sponsored kits. One of the sponsored teams is Park View AFC, ready to dazzle rivals with their new Octokits.
Park View AFC is a progressive community football club based in Chester-le-Street, Durham, providing football opportunities for hundreds of children, young people and adults every week.
Park View AFC’s youth section is at the heart of the club and consists of 50 teams across a wide range of age groups, from the Early Years programmes through to competitive youth football. This means hundreds of local children benefit from regular coaching, training, matches and the opportunity to be part of a positive sporting environment.
Andrew, Coach, Park View AFC, said: “The boys will proudly wear Octopus-sponsored kits, giving them a smart, professional look while representing their team. It also shows Octopus Energy’s support for grassroots football, helping young players enjoy the game, build confidence and create memories together.”
Alex, Player, Park View AFC, said: “Thank you, Octopus, for sponsoring our football kits! Now we can look like proper footballers when we play and make our families proud!”
Rebecca Dibb-Simkin, Chief Marketing Officer at Octopus Energy, said: “Grassroots football is where so many footballing dreams begin, so we're buzzing to bring it back for a third year of helping teams look electrifying on the pitch.
“We want every player putting on an Octokit to feel ready for their big moment. Here's to more great matches, muddy boots and future stars!"
The initiative is powered by Octoplus, Octopus Energy’s popular rewards scheme, which is used by almost 3 million customers.
Eligible customers can sign up to Octoplus via the banner in their online accounts or in their app. Please visit https://octopus.energy/
