New College Durham is proud to support the ambitions of talented young racing driver Lloyd Palmer as he continues his journey through the highly competitive world of karting.
At just 15 years old, Lloyd is already making a name for himself in the Junior Rotax category, competing for Hunter Motorsport Karting Race Team, based at Warden Law Kart Circuit in Sunderland. The team was founded by former British Senior Rotax Champion Rhys Hunter and competes in some of the most prestigious karting championships in the UK and Europe.
Lloyd's motorsport journey began at the age of 10 when he first took to the track in hire karts at Warden Law. Demonstrating natural talent and determination from an early age, he quickly secured his first championship before progressing into owner-driver competition and joining Hunter Motorsport as part of his development towards elite-level racing.
Over the past several years, Lloyd has consistently impressed with his commitment to training, technical understanding of the sport and competitive performances on track. In his first season competing in the Warden Law Karting Championship (WLKC), he secured an impressive third-place finish before improving on that achievement the following year by claiming second place overall.
Building on this success, Lloyd and his team are now competing on a much larger stage, entering the Ultimate Karting Championship (UKC), travelled across the country and is due to take part in the prestigious Kartmasters competition at the end of July.
Recognising Lloyd's talent and potential, New College Durham pledged its support as he continues to pursue his ambitions within motorsport.
The partnership reflects the College's commitment to supporting young people as they strive for excellence, while inspiring future students and demonstrating the value of dedication, resilience and ambition.
As part of the sponsorship, the New College Durham brand features prominently on Lloyd's racewear, kart and promotional materials, helping to raise awareness of the educational and career opportunities available at the College while supporting a promising local athlete.
Rei Khan, Marketing Manager at New College Durham, said:
"At New College Durham, we are passionate about supporting young people who demonstrate exceptional commitment and determination in their chosen field. Lloyd's journey is a fantastic example of what can be achieved through hard work, resilience and ambition. We are delighted to support him as he takes the next steps in his motorsport career and look forward to following his progress on both the national and international stage. Partnerships like this also help us engage with local communities, inspire future students and showcase the wide range of opportunities available through education and sport."
Lloyd's progression from local karting competitions to national and European championships is a testament to his talent and dedication. With the support of his family, team and sponsors, he is continuing to build a strong foundation for what promises to be an exciting future in motorsport.
Everyone at New College Durham wishes Lloyd every success as he continues his pursuit of excellence on the track and represents the North East motorsport community at the highest levels of junior karting competition.
