Tees Folk is a new, contemporary folk event celebrating folk and acoustic music brought to you by Teesside’s premier live entertainment venue, Stockton Globe. This September, in celebration of the venue’s second anniversary since an extensive restoration, the Stockton Globe has partnered with Stockton Borough Council to bring the best of the region’s folk scene under the spotlight. Alongside local hotel Hampton By Hilton Stockton and audio-visual support from Ingram AV, the folk festival will bring folk music to the area in a way we have not seen before.
The Tees Folk line-up applauds a variety of artists with headliners including The Young’uns, Kris Drever, Megson and Amelia Coburn. It's an exciting time in the grassroot, folk world where emotive storytelling and harmonious melodies are largely apparent.
Sean Cooney, David Eagle and Michael Hughes form the three times BBC Radio 2 Folk Award winning trio from Teesside, The Young’uns, whoare the festival’s main headliners. The three thirtysomething friends from Stockton and Hartlepool are no strangers to the public eye, having performed at Glastonbury Festival and presenting a programme on Radio 4.
Award winning Scottish folk singer, guitarist and songwriter, Kris Drever is part of the backbone of today’s contemporary roots and folk scene as well as a self-taught master guitarist. Usually, a member of folk superstar group Lau, he will be taking to the Globe stage as a hugely admired solo artist.
Teesside husband and wife folk duo, Megson are no strangers to the folk circles with a career spanning more than 20 years. Stu and Debbie Hanna have released nine albums and one EP on their own label, edj.
Rounding off the line-up is distinctive Middlesbrough songstress, Amelia Coburn. With previous performances on both the Globe stage at GLOBEfest and a Stockton Calling set at sister venue, The LINK, she is a popular contributor to Teesside’s grassroot music landscape.
In addition to the diverse headline performers, Glaswegian folk band Gnoss will be joining the evening as part of an exclusive after party Live @ The LINK. After party tickets are limited, so if you want the best night of folk to continue on until the early hours then the after party is for you!
The Tees Folk line-up will be narrated by Middlesbrough native and former BBC Introducing host, Bob Fischer. A new music champion for BBC Tees, Bob will present the region’s newest folk festival and present the incredible line-up to the people of Stockton on autumn.
Tees Folk debuts at Stockton Globe on Friday 22nd September 2023. Tees Folk tickets are available to purchase for £21.50 or £27 including after party entrance.
