Rainbow of colour raises over £14,000 for St Cuthbert’s Hospice

Almost 600 people attended Rainbow Ramble event on Sunday 4 th September to help raise funds for local charity St Cuthbert’s Hospice.

The event, kindly sponsored by Durham based construction contractors MGL Group, saw participants run, walk and toddle through a rainbow of brightly coloured paint around the 5K route at Lambton Park, Durham.

Many attending were there simply to have fun with family and friends whilst supporting a

local charity, and many attended in memory of a loved one who was supported at St

Cuthbert’s. The event is expected to raise in excess of £14,000 with more expected in

sponsorship over the coming days.

Jade McArdle, Community & Events Manager, said: “This is the second time we’ve held Rainbow Ramble and it’s always such a joy to see people really getting stuck in and covered in the coloured paint. The laughter you hear and smiles on their faces says it all.

“The funds raised will help us to care for many more people who need us in County Durham. Alongside providing end of life care, St Cuthbert’s provide services including bereavement support, complementary therapies, dementia services and physiotherapy. All our care is free of charge thanks to the amazing people in our community who fundraise for us at events such as these.”

Music on the day was provided by Durham OnAir with Sue Sweeney rallying the crowds. Stilt walkers and bubble artists from Legacy Entertainment & Events were also in attendance.

Around 20 hospice volunteers helped to make the event a great success. Each coloured

paint station was also sponsored by local businesses Raddison Blu Hotel Durham, Tilbury

Douglas Motorpoint Birtley and Urban Base Estate Agents.
