County Durham residents are being made aware of planned closures to a small number of
Household Waste Recycling Centres (HWRCs) this month.
Durham County Council will be closing three HWRCs across the month to allow for
engineering works to take place.
Coxhoe HWRC will be closed on 13 December for one day only, reopening on 14
December.
Het Hills HWRC will close on 12 December and reopen to the public on 19 December.
Finally, Romanway HWRC will close on 12 December for one day, reopening on 13
December. It will then close again on 19 December and reopen on Boxing Day, 26
December.
John Shannon, the council’s strategic waste manager, said: “These necessary closures
will allow for essential engineering works to take place at the three HWRCs over the next
few weeks. We would like to thank residents in advance for their patience.
“For anyone who is planning to visit these sites on these days, we would encourage them
to use an alternative HWRC instead. The most up to date opening times and information
can be found on our website.”
