New 'One Stop' convenience store for Durham

The Wilson brothers, Daniel and Craig who are well known in the North-East for their chain of One Stop stores, have opened their 18th store at 1- 3 Grove Road, Brandon in Durham today (Friday 2nd December 2022).

This also marks the 300th franchise store opening for One Stop which is a subsidiary of Tesco.

The Wilson’s new store will provide the local area with a fantastic refitted 2,000 sq ft shop filled with fresh produce, frozen essentials, ‘Own Label’ products, including the new ‘Selected by Tesco’ range and a host of ‘food to go’ vending services. The Wilsons also have their own brand of coffee which at just £1.49 has become a welcome daily treat for many customers in the region.

Shoppers can also look forward to One Stop’s market leading promotions, which the retailer is renowned for, allowing them to take advantage of big-name brands at low prices.

The Wilsons currently employ nearly 200 staff from the North-East and the new store at Brandon is set to bring at least 10 further jobs to the area.

Speaking about the opening, Daniel Wilson explains: “We’re really excited about opening our latest store. It sits within a large housing area and the local neighbourhood has been keen for a store to reopen here. It’s been transformed with the help of One Stop Franchise’s £50,000 refit investment and looks modern and inviting.”

Franchising works when an independent retailer chooses to move their business to a company like One Stop, enabling them to take advantage of all their systems, processes and delivery network whilst maintaining their business and allowing them to remain their own boss. One Stop’s state of the art technology allows the Wilsons to run multiple sites with ease and all to the same high and consistent standards.

As a business One Stop is dedicated to the local communities in which it operates, and its charity schemes enables franchisees to provide sizeable grants to local causes in their neighbourhoods. The Wilsons recently awarded a substantial grant to their local football team, Scarborough Athletic FC to build a new stand for the member owned club. They have also dug deep into their own pockets to support other local football teams, school projects and causes which have been close to theirs and their customer’s hearts.

The brothers have invested heavily over the past few years and have breathed life back into many sites, from refurbishing pubs to city centre destinations. Daniel Wilson continues: “Alongside investing in opening new stores we also invest in our existing ones, from extending some to refurbishing others. We’ve even moved one entire shop across the road to a larger site and always respond to the specific needs of each area.”

One Stop continues to buck the trend and track ahead of its competitors and outperform the market. The industry has recognised its outstanding contribution to the sector with several top industry awards from ‘Franchisor of the Year’ at the Grocer Golds in 2021 for its successful franchise business and this year also scooping double accolades of ‘Convenience Retailer of the Year’ and ‘Multiple Community Retailer of the Year’ at the Retail Industry Awards.

John Miller, Head of Franchise at One Stop comments: “It’s a very significant milestone for us at One Stop to reach our 300th franchise store and we congratulate Daniel and Craig Wilson on their achievement opening their 18th with us.

“They have always taken great pride in being at the heart of their community and their new shop looks superb. It’s bright, fresh and the whole team is looking forward to showing it off to everyone when it opens.

“We wish the Wilsons and their team the very best of luck and have no doubt that they will make Grove Road as successful as all their other stores.”
