Street theatre, aerialists, comedians, drama, drag, dance and all the fun of the Fringe is coming to Durham City in July this year. From 28th July to 1st August the four Fringe venues will be showing over 30 different shows from acts across the North East and beyond. The brain child of local paediatrician Stephen Cronin and three of his friends who live or work in the City have formed a Community Interest Company to keep Fringe going for years to come.
Their interests in community arts brought them all around the virtual table to organise this year's event and they have been working with local partners such as Durham BID, Durham Markets, The University Theatre and Durham School who have all been generous towards the project.
Former Deputy Mayor of Durham City and one of the Directors, Bill Moir, said " After months of lockdown we all thought it would be great to get together and enjoy some home grown entertainment and give trade in the City a boost too"
The Durham Fringe launches in Durham Market Place on Monday 31st May with pop up entertainment from Youth Connections Theatre Company performing two rousing Choral sets at 1pm and 2pm. Just before the event Stephen Cronin told us that he and his team have had great fun finding and booking venues in the City, booking a variety of entertainers and cramming 12 months planning into three. Fringe runs from 28th July to 1st August at Fabios bar, The City Theatre, The Assembly Rooms and the gardens of St Chad's College.
