Durham Rail Station to close for 10 days


Durham station will close for ten days to allow for track and station "improvements".


Durham station will be closed on 14, 15, 21, 22, 28 and 29 January and 4, 5, 11 and 12 February.


Network rail have said the work, which will cost £6m, is vital to improve reliability.


The work involves replacing over 100m of track, and making improvements to platforms and station facilities. Trains will not stop at Durham and will instead terminate at York or Newcastle.


LNER Trains will be running on a diversion, and rail replacement services will be in place for some operators. Passengers are being urged to plan ahead.


Paul Rutter, the route director at Network Rail said "The work we're doing in and around Durham in January and February will help boost reliability and provide smoother journeys for passengers." He said there will be "significant changes to services" to "allow work to take place safely"
