Durham named one of the safest cities for a night out in the UK

New data has revealed the top ten best, safest and cheapest cities for a night out in the UK.

The study, conducted by online casino Luck.com analysed data on the number of bars and clubs, the number of pubs, the average cost of a pint, the average cost of a takeaway and safety scores for walking alone at night to determine the top cities for partygoers in the UK.

Truro takes the crown as the best city for a night out in the UK Cornwall’s cathedral city has more to offer than its stunning architecture and nearby beaches; the average cost of a pint is only £4 and there are 196 pubs per 100,000 people to choose from. According to people who have visited Truro, the city also has a safety score of 83/100 for walking alone at night, the highest score in the UK.

Lichfield is the second-best city for nightlife. Located in Staffordshire, the cathedral city’s stunning parks, museums and nightlife are enough to warrant a visit. Lichfield has 435 pubs per 100,000 people to choose from, the highest number in the top ten list. The average cost of a McDonald’s meal is also £5.50, contributing to a final score of 69.40/100.

Wrexham, a location with countryside landscapes and a thrilling nightlife scene, takes the bronze medal. A pint in the Welsh city costs £2 on average, the lowest price in the UK. The study also reveals that Wrexham has a safety score for walking alone at night of 50, 40 bars and clubs per 100,000 people and a final nightlife score of 67.83.

In fourth place is Salisbury. Home to the world-famous Stonehenge, the welcoming city has the third highest safety score for walking home alone at night in the top ten, with 72. The average price of a McDonald’s meal is £6.19 and the average price of a pint at £3.50, resulting in Salisbury’s final score of 67/100.

Durham is the fifth best city for nightlife in the UK. Nestled in the North East, visitors can spend the day admiring Durham Cathedral and exploring the Botanic Gardens. The city has 393 pubs per 100,000 people, the second highest safety score for walking alone at night, 74, and a final score of 65.17.

Chester, a cathedral city overflowing with historical charm and activities, ranks in sixth place. With a pint of beer costing an average of £3.95 and 236 pubs per 100,000 people available, it is no surprise that Chester has a final score of 62.68 out of 100.

Derby and Bradford, with a final score of 60.77, tie as the seventh best city for nightlife in the UK. This is followed by Bangor in eighth place with a final score of 60.60 and Perth in ninth with a final score of 60.35. Chelmsford, with a final score of 60.31, is the tenth best city for nightlife in the UK.

A spokesperson from Luck.com has commented the study: “Truro is the best, cheapest and safest U.K. city for a night out, according to this new analysis. It is interesting, however, that the data exclusively names cathedral cities in England, Wales and Scotland, rather than larger metropolitan cities. This suggests partygoers can enjoy celebrations to the fullest in welcoming environments without paying higher prices that are often found in larger cities, such as London and Manchester.”
