BREAKING: Durham is officially the 'most festive' city in the UK!





As December approaches, households across the country are gearing up for Christmas. According to Google Trends, interest in keywords relating to Christmas has skyrocketed in recent weeks, with a huge increase in searches for Christmas decorations, lighting and trees... especially in Durham!


Synonymous with rustic markets, delicious food and towns bedecked with twinkling lights, the festive season is an exciting time for many families. For others, preparing for Christmas is a daunting task, with presents to buy, houses to decorate and feasts to plan.

This week, researchers at CB4L set out to find the UK’s most festive city, the results are as follows:

  • There were 246 searches per 10 000 people for “Christmas decorations”

  • There were 19 searches per 10 000 people for “Christmas songs”

  • We crowned Chichester as the third most festive city.

  • Chichester placed 12th for the number of festive events relative to its population.
