Durham After Dark

Midnight - 4:00am

Whats on in County Durham this weekend? Aug 29th

Every week we work with Visit County Durham to discover what you can explore from your door. We collected the best walks, rides and attractions, as well as a selection of fantastic events that are happening over this weekend.

Walk: Durham City North Walk
This riverside and farmland route follows surfaced paths or roads and can be undertaken
without walking boots at all times of the year. The route consists of two relatively level
sections, separated by an ascent of 20 metres (65 feet) in 1 kilometre (3,000 feet), a
gradient of 1:40, after point (B) on map and a corresponding descent along Frankland Lane.
At two points along the walk it is possible to take a short-cut back into the city centre.

Ride: Upper Weardale Cycle Route
This cycle route takes you along the minor lanes across upper Weardale, a beautiful rural
valley with historic villages and spectacular countryside. There are good pubs and facilities
in St John’s Chapel. https://www.thisisdurham.com/things-to-do/upper-weardale-cycle-route-

Beauty Spot/Picnic Spot: Seaham Beach
Seaham Beach is a pleasant stretch of rocky and sandy beach, with rocks pools a plenty.
The dog-friendly beach stretches for approx. one mile along the town’s coastline, from the
harbour wall to the north of the town. The beach can be viewed from above as you wander
along the town’s clifftop coastal walk or from the accessible promenade which runs
alongside part of the beach. It’s also known as a hot spot for sea glass collecting.

Attraction: Locomotion
At Locomotion you can see highlights of the national collection of railway vehicles in the
world’s first railway town.
The town of Shildon has had an exciting story to tell since the earliest days of the rail
industry, making it the perfect place to explore the rich seam of local railway history and
discover how the railways have changed all our lives. https://www.thisisdurham.com/things-
