Students from Durham Sixth Form Centre (DSFC) are inviting local people to send in their favourite photographs of Lumiere over the years. The winning entries will be exhibited at DSFC’s Dead Dog Gallery during this year’s Lumiere light art biennial, 13-15 November.
The call invites anyone from the North East to enter up to four photos of Lumiere’s brightest
moments over the years across four categories:
- Fan Favourite - Your most loved installation
- Transformation - Spaces reimagined by light
- Faces of Lumiere - Capturing the audience experience
- Memorable moments - Your most treasured Lumiere memories
In each category, there will be a photo selected from each of the three age groups: 11–17,
18–30, and 31+.
So, get searching through your old photos – you might be onto a winner!
The exhibition is being produced by DSFC arts students taking their first foray into event
production and – supported by Lumiere’s production team – are exploring the various
elements of publicity, events management and curation involved in presenting a
photography show.
The deadline for entries is midnight on Monday 8 September and photos should be uploaded
through this link: www.Lumiere-Festival.com/CallForPhotos
Lumiere is a landmark event in the Durham calendar, showcasing international and UK
artists working with light, alongside local artistic talent. The UK’s light art biennial has
attracted over one million visitors to the Durham since 2009 to see the city transformed into
an immersive spectacle.
Since it began, Lumiere has had a significant impact on the local
community, promoting positive change and benefitting the lives of 14,000 schoolchildren and
local people through its Learning & Participation programme. Today, the event stands as a
beacon of creativity and community in the cultural landscape of the North East.
Beatrice Johnston, a graphic design student at DSFC says: “It’s a great opportunity to
use my design skills outside the classroom and to experience what sorts of careers exist
within the creative industry.”
Beth King, Head of Learning and Participation from Lumiere says: “We’re so excited to
be partnering with Durham Sixth Form Centre on this project - this will be the ultimate
celebration of such a beloved landmark event in the North East.”
