Local Woman, Katrina Fisher, mum, coach, and co-owner of TFT MMA with her husband Andrew Fisher, has struck gold at the International Mixed Martial Arts Federation (IMMAF) World Championships —essentially the Olympics of MMA.
Competing in the bantamweight division, Katrina battled through three world-class opponents to secure the gold medal:
-
In her opening fight, she stopped a World champion wrestler from Morocco by TKO.
-
In the semi-final, she faced the top seed from Kazakhstan, winning decisively by dominating every round.
-
In the final, she showcased her grit and skill, winning every round against her Hungarian opponent to become IMMAF World Champion.
Her journey to the World Championships was only possible thanks to the incredible support of her local community, who raised over £3,000 to cover registration fees and expenses.
“This has been the greatest experience of my life, other than having my daughter,” said Fisher. “To become world champion on this stage, with the support of my family, our gym, and our community, is a dream come true. I fought for all of them, and I’m proud to bring this title home to Sunderland.”
Fisher now leaves the IMMAFs with a 9-1 amateur record and has her sights set firmly on the European Championships in Serbia this February, as she continues her remarkable journey.
