Durham Gilesgate Primary School, the School’s Parents, Teachers and Friends Association (PTFA), and Emmanuel Church Durham are organising the Gilesgate Community Fun Day at the School on Saturday 14 th June, from 1.30-4.30pm.
The event will include a giant inflatable, bouncy castle, face painting, live
entertainment, crafts, sports, science demonstrations, stalls from local sellers, a free
barbecue, competitions, and a licensed bar.
Entry and many of the activities are free of charge. Where there is a charge, funds
will go to the PTFA, which works to bring families together, promote a sense of
community, and raise money for the School.
The event is open to the whole Gilesgate community, not only families with a
connection to the School.
The Community Fun Day is the latest in a series of PTFA-organised events marking
the School’s 60 th anniversary, including a successful Winter Fair and Iftar Meal.
For Emmanuel Church Durham, the Community Fun Day is part of the ‘God Loves’
week of community work and evangelism. Volunteers from the Church will also be
undertaking public space and private gardening, running in-school and after-school
activities for children, and a big community litter pick.
Mark Turner, the School Headteacher, said: “We’re very much looking forward to our
Community Fun Day and welcoming many people from the local area, whether you
have an existing connection to the School or not, to come along and enjoy the day.”
Jenny Lawshaw, Chair of the PTFA, said: “We have a fantastic range of events
planned for the Fun Day and, with thanks to Emmanuel Church for their support, are
excited to be offering such a packed programme, with all welcome.”
Jonny Higgins, who leads the ‘God Loves’ week for Emmanuel Church Durham,
said: “We’re very pleased to be working with Durham Gilesgate Primary School and
the PTFA to put on what promises to be a fun day for everyone. If you live in the
area, we’d love to welcome you.”
