Matthew Donnachie
Meet Matthew
What can we expect from your show?
Local radio means talking local! Each show I'll bring you all the latest news from around OUR region, look at all the things for you to see and do over the weekend, and keep you up to date with national news headlines, weather and your traffic and travel updates. And of course, we'll have some chatter and fun along the way.
What brought you to radio?
Radio is something I've been doing since the age of 12 when I got involved with my school radio station and I've been hooked ever since. Funnily enough, my grandma used to always listen to Sue Sweeney in the car, and I always used to think that'll be me one day...and now here I am on Durham On Air, and Sue is one of the presenters! After leaving school I went to study Television and Radio Production at university, and joined Durham On Air in 2021.
Tell me about your experiences of the North East?
Through my life I've lived all over the North East - born in Newcastle, grew up in Northumberland, went to university in Sunderland, and then moved to Durham! What is there not to love about the place? A dip in the sea at Blackhall Rocks, or a trip to the Palace in Bishop Auckland. It's a place full of history and culture.
How do you spend your ideal weekend?
Start the day at a nice brunch spot with a full English, get some sunshine and fresh air along the coast, then go and sit in the darkness of a cinema with a bucket of popcorn, followed by an evening of playing Mario Kart!
Hear Matthew every Friday morning from 7am
