See the moment a Durham NHS Nurse wins a party for her colleagues at Durham Hospital

This is the moment a Nurse from County Durham won a party for all of her colleagues on a live radio show on Christmas Day morning!

Emily Young, a nurse at University Hospital of North Durham, entered the Lumley Castle Advent Calendar 7K Christmas Giveaway, featured on Durham OnAir, the new local radio station for County Durham. The competition, by Lumley Castle, saw the luxury 600 year old hotel give away a new prize every single day in December!

Winners have been lucky enough to bag luxury afternoon teas, dining experiences and even Escape Room tickets. But Emily was the recipient of the star prize, a party for 75 people, with DJ and catering provided, worth over £4000.

Emily was about to head off to a Christmas Day shift at the University Hospital of North Durham when she received the call live on air.

Emily's name was randomly picked, having been one of over 100 entries for the star prize. Durham OnAir Breakfast show presenter Sam Lupton had the exciting Job of giving Emily the good news live on Christmas morning.

"You have no idea what that means to me"

Emily told Breakfast show host Sam Lupton "I've just finished opening my presents with my family before going to work!".

Upon finding out she was the winner of the party for 75 people, she said "You have no idea what that means to me. I'm going to invite all my work colleagues and my family and we're all going to have a great time... cause it's just been a really difficult year for everyone, so I thought I'd enter to give something to everyone!"

"When I go in (to work) I'm going to tell them that I've won so it'll literally make their Christmas as well!"

Lupton said "We have been building up to this giveaway every single morning on the Durham Breakfast show through December. We've spoken to some wonderful people, and it's been so great to spread a little generosity, courtesy of Lumley Castle, after a really difficult year. The fact that Emily was on her way to work at the hospital on Christmas Day is the icing on the cake. I cant think of a more deserving group of winners!"
