Queens Baton visits Durham City and Seaham on July 14th


The Birmingham 2022 Queen’s Baton Relay is set to visit Durham City and Seaham on Thursday, 14 July during its final journey, through England, ahead of this year’s Commonwealth Games, providing the opportunity for communities to experience the excitement building for Birmingham 2022.


Durham OnAir will be live from the starting line, welcoming the Baton into the city!

The Queen’s Baton Relay will start at the top of Claypath in Durham City, before heading into the Market Place and then visiting Palace Green at Durham Cathedral. The Baton will then be carried back on to South Bailey and across Prebends Bridge, then go via the River Wear where the Baton will be rowed by Durham Amateur Rowing Club to The Racecourse.

Best viewing spots in the city are Palace Green, Prebends Bridge, The Racecourse.

The convoy will then travel to Seaham, with the procession starting at North Terrace, heading past the Tommy statue at Terrace Green before ending at Vane Tempest Car Park.

Get involved with the celebrations and cheer on the incredible community Batonbearers. And as the Queen’s Baton Relay is taking place during another fantastic event, the Durham Brass Festival, which runs from 10-17 July, spectators at The Racecourse in Durham City and Terrace Green in Seaham will also enjoy some sounds of Brass with a fantastic live band.
