A new whisky which has launched in the North East will make its debut appearance at food, drink and music festival Chester-le-EATS.
Martin and Julie Summers, who own Clarence Spirits, have launched St Mary’s Whisky.
The couple, who also have gin, rum and vodka in their range, will be showcasing the new Scottish blended whisky at Chester-le-EATS, which takes place on the 5th and 6th October at Seat Unique Riverside, home of Durham Cricket.
“We’ve attended Chester-le-EATS since it first launched three years ago as it’s a cracking event – and this year, we’re super excited to have our new whisky on sale.
“It’s a really interesting blend as we use spiced blood orange, Madagascan vanilla, salted caramel, maple syrup and sugar-beat.
“The finish is a very fruity whisky which is also sweet and smooth, it’s not an aggressive whisky where you get that aftertaste of alcohol,” said Martin.
This year’s event, which is free to attend and will be held from 11am to 6pm each day, will also feature a whole host of new food and drink producers.
Voodoo Pizza, Acropolis – famed for its Greek street food – Kolamba, which serves up Sri Lankan cuisine, Hatch 76, which specialises in duck dishes, plus German sausage company Smokey Joe’s will all be part of the new packed line-up for year three.
Visitors will also be able to enjoy artisan coffee from the Barista Sisters and tuck into Dutch pancakes from The Little Poffeterje Pancake Co.
New to Market Street this year is Burtree Puddings, Balefire Sauces, and Brewery Jewellery, a craft company which makes earrings and necklaces from craft beer cans.
Wigga Wagga will be featuring their award-winning chilli products and visitors will be able to take their taste buds on a journey through Indian regions with Really Indian’s hand-crafted fresh sauces.
“We’ve gone all out in finding the hottest products for our visitors to enjoy,” said Ythan Sale, Events Manager at Durham Cricket.
“We’ve also expanded the footprint of the event, with a completely revamped Family Zone – with rides, sports activities, smoothie making by peddling a bike hosted by
Chester-le-Street café, REfUSE, face painters, stilt walkers, flash mobs and our usual line-up of top-class local celebrity artists.
“Headlining the stage this year on Saturday will be folk-pop duo, Tall Shaves, and on Sunday we Geordie folk trio The Belta Reivers,” added Ythan.
In the Eats Emporium shopping area, which will this year be located in the Geoff Cook Suite – inside Tower Two on the first floor – visitors will be able to enjoy Scotch eggs by Cassie’s Kitchen, craft beer by McColl’s Brewery, Portuguese tarts from The Sunrise Patisserie, plus plenty more.
Northeast Fun Bus will also be at Chester-le-EATS with a play area for the kids, and Ocean Beach Pleasure Park, based in South Shields, will be bringing along amusement rides.
The dog-friendly event will also feature artisan treats for four-legged friends by Wellibix, plus Pure Pet Food and The Dog’s Trust will also be attending.
Chester-le-EATS takes place on the 5th and 6th October, from 11am to 6pm, and is free to attend. Entry for visitors is via Gate 1.
