A landslip has closed 1 of 2 lines on the East Coast mainline in County Durham, with passengers being told to check before they travel today and tomorrow. The landslip has occurred just north of Darlington station.
On the line that is still open, there is a reduced service in operation traveling both Northbound and southbound.
Network rail engineers are on site and are believed to be working through the night. Passengers have been warned that disruption is likely to continue into Thursday. Passengers are being told to check before traveling, with all train operators using the line affected.
Some LNER and Cross Country services are still running, and some services will accept tickets from different train companies. Passengers should check using National Rail Enquiries and social media.
Paul Rutter from Network Rail said "Our teams are working hard to repair damage to the railway in Aycliffe. While we want to minimise disruption to travellers, the safety of passengers is our top priority. We are sorry for the inconvenience this will cause to journeys and we want to thank passengers for their patience and understanding while we carry out this vital work.”
