Fairy tales to come to life across County Durham

The fabulous Grimm Brothers’ fairy tales are being brought to life across County Durham

this summer.

The Not So Grimm Twins will offer families free entertainment at the county’s parks and

outdoor spaces throughout August.

The co-production by Durham County Council’s Gala Durham and theatre company,

Wrongsemble, will launch at Seaham Food Festival on Saturday 6 and Sunday 7 August.

It will then visit Blackhill and Consett Park on Tuesday 9 August; Glenholme Park, Crook

on Wednesday 10 August; Town Park, Newton Aycliffe on Thursday 11 August; and

Hardwick Park, Sedgefield on Friday 12 August, before a grand finale at Wharton Park in

Durham City on Saturday 13 August.

Cllr Elizabeth Scott, Cabinet member for economy and partnerships, said: “We are thrilled

to bring such an excellent production to communities across the county. Offering a playful

twist on some familiar fairy tales, we are sure families are set for a fantastic time.

“The tour highlights our commitment to ensuring all our residents can access cultural

opportunities in County Durham. We are looking forward to sharing the magic of live

theatre with young children and older residents. It’s the perfect opportunity to pack a picnic

and enjoy some free entertainment at an outdoor space near you.”

Featuring original live music and puppetry, The Not So Grimm Twins will be performed by

three actor-musicians on Wrongsemble’s incredible travelling Imaginarium stage.

Families will meet world-famous twins Jake and Will Grimm and their little sister Lottie, as

they tumble from their magical wagon overflowing with stories from every inch of the

enchanting world - from Rapunzel to Red Riding Hood.

The interactive fun-filled show will feature some unexpected twists on the familiar tales,

with the heroes needing all the help they can get to triumph at the end of the show.

All performances are free, suitable for the whole family and British Sign Language (BSL)

interpreted to ensure that everyone can enjoy the show.
